Artist's Statement

Working with acrylic allows me to experiment with the paint in a way to create the rustic style of my work. Layer upon layer of dry brush is used on a textured surface to give the sense of depth and age. My technique adds character and detail to each subject from landscapes, trees, old building studies, interiors, dresses or florals.

My recent visits to Italy, France, England and Spain and Italy have rekindled my interest in the European countryside. The rolling hills are scattered with charming cottages or stately villas. Rows of vines, fields of lavender, olive groves and cypress trees are so vivid on these landscapes. The Tuscan countryside filled me with awe and inspiration to bring the beauty and warmth I experienced to my canvas.  Some of the mixed media pieces have also been inspired by my European travels.

My fascination with old structures and unique architecture are very apparent in my old building studies. Whether rustic or opulent they share the charm of an age gone by.  Dresses and history of costume have always been a passion for me dating back to an early age. These paintings of dresses are very unique and capture the elegance of the era. Flowers have also been a constant interest to me with my love of gardens and plants. The florals are always exciting to paint because of the vivid colour and pleasure they create.
