Figurative oil painter Nicole Sleeth comes from a traditional art atelier background. She merges a love of classical tradition with post-contemporary figurative subjects, and incorporates a focus on the physical aspect of paint to communicate and connect.
Nicole’s current work shows a stark, refreshing and confrontational treatment of the oft-depicted female nude. She paints large scale depictions of nude women who engage and actively challenge the viewer, holding them accountable for their stare and ultimately questioning the relationship between the viewer and the viewed. Working with careful attention to paint application, Nicole brings a physicality to her work that toys with the line between viewing a painting and connecting with another human.Born in Kingston, ON and trained in Ottawa and New York City, Nicole established a studio atelier in Vancouver from 2011-2014. Presently, she lives and works in Victoria BC
