Artist InformationBorn in Holland, Jeanne (Shan-eh) lived in The Netherlands and Northern Africa, before immigrating to Vancouver, Canada in 1999. Since that time she has been busy establishing herself as a talented mixed media artist with European flair on the West Coast. Jeanne is an artist full of energy and passion. Painting has always been part of Jeanne’s daily life. For her, painting is another way of keeping a diary. Jeanne has formal training in the European art tradition and extensive exhibit experience both in Europe and Canada. She likes to work with architectural elements and people, but a large part of her work is also rooted in landscape. Her series of work called A TRAVEL JOURNAL, reflects colourful story-like impressions of countries she has traveled through, including people and places in Asia, New Zealand and Northern Africa. The feedback she got from people who had been touched by these paintings inspired her to explore the immigration theme, resulting in the series ROOTS AND WINGS. This series of paintings describes steppingstones in the immigration process. In the works she explores themes of homesickness, living in two worlds, the challenge of a new language, the experience of being uprooted and adapting to the new unspoken cultural rules. As an immigrant herself she has experienced both the joys and challenges of a transition to a new culture and country. Jeanne's series SPACE ("RUIMTE") celebrated its premiere in The Netherlands, where it showed during the Fall of 2004 attracting over two thousand visitors during these weeks. The show included works in a variety of different mediums and forms of expression, all reflecting stories about the precious space we live in; space to breath, move, work and relax. The exhibition SPACE was a unique collection between Jeanne Krabbendam (paintings, installations, slide show and movie) and her brothers Rijkus Krabbendam (movie, slides and sounds) and Adriaan Krabbendam (poetry and music). Jeanne's series of mixed media paintings, "Ancient Times", tells the story of the Old World. The art works are created based on impressions of the history of ancient civilization and the beautiful places one can find in the historical rich Mediterranean. Jeanne is recently working on a series of abstract landscapes with a working title “Directions”. She is creating paintings based on her traveling through Canada and Australia with impressions of landscapes created by built surfaces of acrylics, altered photographs, transfers, wax and oil paint. A great deal of Jeanne's work is sold at exhibits but individuals and corporations have also commissioned her. Over the years many of her paintings have found a home in Europe, North America, Australia and Japan.
