Never painted before, but still the wish to try it? Last art experience in high school and willing to pick it up again? Painting for years and feeling the necessity to bring your work to another level? Sign up for one of Jeanne's art courses! Jeanne now also instructs at the Emily Carr Institute for Art and Design in Vancouver. Her course “The Built Surface” was after a successful fall again scheduled in January / February 2007. For the Summer School Of Arts at Emily Carr she scheduled two full weeks of intensive Mixed Media Art (See for more information below)

General description of a course

You will get instruction, techniques and tips on how to 'translate' your ideas into a piece of mixed media art. These workshops and courses include information and lots of hands on exercises in painting with acrylics, colour, composition and texture. Jeanne will introduce you to the use of:

  • Spackle
  • Different gels and mediums
  • Transfers
  • Monotypes / printing techniques
  • Lifting techniques
  • Collage
  • Cheese cloth and other fabrics
  • Tissue paper, news paper, magazine paper
  • Washes and Glazes
  • Antiquing techniques

The Built Surface Mixed Media Painting Techniques Level 2 (encaustic techniques included!)

Emily Carr Institute Continuing Studies, Granville Island, Vancouver July 16 – 20, 2007, Monday through Friday, 6 hours a day

A week long course in which you can discover more advanced methods such as the ancient medium of encaustic, a technique which fuses layers of beeswax and pigment. Critiques and class work are part of the course.

Art With A Story

Using ‘mixed media’ to remember loved ones, to capture a wonderful experience or to simply record a holiday is an amazing way to tell a story with paint. This workshop includes information and hands-on exercises that enable you to explore this narrative art form. Jeanne will introduce you to the different mm techniques to create expressive, unique and dramatic paintings which tell the stories important to you.

Art With A Story – Level 2

Be inspired to develop your skills further and explore various combinations of mixed media painting techniques. Risk taking is encouraged, guiding you beyond your traditional practice with an emphasis on design and personal style. Discover more advanced methods of mixed media painting.

An intermediate level course – you must have taken Art With A Story or have other previous experience in mixed media painting.

Story Telling Through Mixed Media Painting

Two weeks course at Red Deer Summer School Of Arts, Red Deer, Alberta

Monday through Friday July 23 – 27 and July 30 – August 3, 2007 daily 9.00 AM – 4.00 PM

Pick either one of these weeks or do the two weeks back to back. Stay at the campus, get instruction during the day and use the studio any time during the week. The first week is focused on technique of layering and building your surface while telling the story you want to share; The second week is more focused on developing your own style and skills in various mixed media painting techniques.
