About the Artist After studying Anthropology at University of Toronto and Bryn Mawr College, Kathleen's first job was with an historic archaeology project in Nova Scotia. While working at 18th Century Fort Louisbourg, she developed an interest in early ceramics and glassware, elements which often appear in her current watercolor still-lifes.

Several years later and a continent away, she joined the faculty of University of Alaska. For ten years she worked in Native education. The work involved a lot of travel throughout the State, and she later depicted what she had seen in sketches of Native villagers, flora and wildlife. A number of the images have been reproduced as limited edition prints.

While at the university, Kathleen's interest in painting grew, and she enrolled in the art department. At the time, studio classes emphasized painting in oil and acrylic. It was a visiting instructor, Ed Whitney, who introduced her to the transparency of watercolor. She went on to study with a number of watercolorists including Nita Engel, Frank Webb and Irving Shapiro, before eventually teaching art classes herself at the university.

Since 1995 she has been painting full time. Her subjects include northern images, West Coast themes, and still-life. Many are available as mini-prints which have been collected worldwide. Whether painting in traditional watercolor or free flowing acrylic, Kathleen continues to find inspiration in the natural beauty of the North and Pacific Coast.
