About the Artist It's natural to go from depicting nature in paint to wanting to help save as much of it as possible. While I paint for the joy of it, I hope my work will help arouse public awareness of the potential for loss. Inspired by such Favuist painters as Andre Derain, my focus is on landscapes in whatever medium best suits the motif. I work mostly in watercolour and acrylic, often en plein aire. Widely traveled, I take art materials with me for on-the-spot work. |

As an editor and travel writer I have a broad perspective, so galleries,
museums, beauty spots and regional architecture are on the itinerary of every tour. Intrigued by the process of mark-making as a child while watching my father paint watercolour murals, I tinkered with brushes and paint for years before deciding to get serious about art-making. One course led to another and eventually to a BFA with distinction from University of Victoria. |

Prizes and honours have followed, including twice being chosen by juries to represent Victoria at the B.C. Festival of the Arts and also for a special Commonwealth Games exhibition in 1994. My work is in several public and numerous private collections around the globe. As well as the CFA, I'm a member of the Island Illustrators' Society and Victoria's Watermark Printmakers' Society. | |
