I Paint Because ... I have always made marks. As a child on the floor, on every piece of paper I could get my hands on, on the wall by the phone and on every notebook. And still today I doodle on everything and sometimes these doodles look like ideas for paintings. I paint because the visual input of everything is so intense. Sometimes I don't paint because the visual input is so intense. I paint because of the light, because of the shadows, because of the patterns, because of the colours, and because of the contrasts. I paint because I can do it and I paint because I can't. I paint because of an inner need to create something beautiful. I paint to see what is going to appear on my canvas. Josanne VanHees
