Signature Status

Spacer

Signature Status with the FCA stands for a certain level of excellence achieved by the individual artist. Benefits and responsibilities associated with Signature Status can be found in the FCA Policy Manual. There are two types of Signature Status:

  • Associate Membership (AFCA)
  • Senior Membership (SFCA)

Jurying for both levels of Signature Membership is done by our Board of Governors once a year. The next BOG meeting will take place in March 2017.

HOW TO APPLY

A) Active Members:

  1. In a first step eligible Active Members applying for AFCA or SFCA status need to complete and submit the Signature Status application form that can be found on the last two pages of the Signature Status application package. This can be done either via email to fcaadmin@artists.ca or via regular mail.

  2. Once we received the completed application form and checked the submitted list of 7 qualifying FCA shows (see "Eligibility"), applicants will be sent a submission link via email, which will allow the applicants to pay for their application fee and submit the required portfolio of 10 digital images online. We no longer accept submissions via CD, USB-stick or JPGS attached to emails.

  3. Three (3) original artworks must be delivered to the Federation Gallery by the set deadline (tbd). The three original works must be represented in the group of ten images submitted online. Extra originals will not be considered.

B) AFCA Members:

  1. AFCA members applying for SFCA status are not required to complete the application form included in the Signature Status application package. We no longer accept submissions via CD, USB-stick or JPGS attached to emails. All submissions must be completed online by the set deadline.

  2. Three (3) original artworks must be delivered to the Federation Gallery by the set deadline. The three original works must be represented in the group of ten images submitted online. Extra originals will not be considered.

ELIGIBILITY

A) Active Members:

In order to be eligible to apply for Signature Status, applicants must have had 7 different works accepted in 7 different juried FCA shows within the past 4 years. These shows are referred to as 'qualifying shows'. Most juried exhibitions with the FCA Gallery in Vancouver are qualifying shows (with the exception of online-only exhibitions). FCA Chapter exhibitions are qualifying when they were juried by two SFCAs and one AFCA (please check with your Chapter).

At least 2 of those 7 qualifying exhibitions must have been with the FCA Gallery in Vancouver. The remaining 5 qualifying exhibitions may also have been with Chapters. However, only a maximum of 2 Chapter exhibitions per year are taken into consideration for your Signature Status application. This means, there won't be any problems if an applicant lists 2 Chapter shows for 2015, 2 Chapter shows for 2014 and 1 Chapter show for 2013. But if an applicant lists 5 Chapter shows for 2014, only two out of those 5 will be counted towards the required 7 qualifying shows.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding eligibility and your show list, please contact Admin Assistant, Dara McDermott, via fcaadmin@artists.ca or 604-681-2744.

B) AFCA members:

Associate Members applying for SFCA Status do not need to provide such a list.
