GEORGE
W. BATES, SFCA, CSMA
The
oil paintings of GEORGE W. BATES, SFCA, CSMA capture the ambient light
and atmosphere of the west coast sea and landscape in a unique impressionistic
style. His luscious works depicting moods of Europe are in great demand.
Bates love of art began as a boy in England, where he was deeply
influenced by artists such as John Singer Sargent and Alfred Sisley,
but he later came to appreciate the work of the great marine painters
Montague Dawson and Norman Wilkinson. He values the lessons of simplicity
of design taught him by his friend Edwin C. Lockey. Bates now resides
in West Vancouver, B.C. where there is no end of inspiration for his
work. As well as his love of the coastal scene, he is equally fond
of painting the street scenes and landscapes of Europe, especially
France and Britain. In addition to being elected a senior member of
the FCA, Bates is a charter member of the Canadian Society of Marine
Artists.
