CHEN, NANCY RUEN-FEN, AFCA

Born in Tainan, Taiwan, Nancy Ruen-Fen Chen came to Vancouver, BC, after first immigrating (with her family) to Montreal, PQ in her teen years. Her promise as a developing artist was recognized early in childhood. She began studying traditional Chinese brush painting technique in earnest and continued to develop maturity as an artist through years of devoted study. Now, many years later, she is known for her distinctive style that often blends traditional and contemporary Chinese brush painting. One readily recognizes the strong Asian influence. Her favorite subjects include velvet landscapes and wispy skies or Nature themes such as flowers, birds and very modern and innovative techniques to produce paintings that border on the abstract. The tonal quality is indicative of her eye for harmony and encourage the viewer to take a deeper look.
