JOYCE KAMIKURA, SFCA, NWS

In addition to her delicate and exquisite watercolours, many paintings of JOYCE KAMIKURA, SFCA, NWS include vibrant, colourful and textural mixed media elements. Subtle, soft treatment of forms interplay with strongly defined shapes. Kamikura’s artistic ideas are fragments of what fascinates her — seeds from which her work begins to develop. Although her works undoubtedly have roots in her daily life, they are taken beyond the periphery of realism. In addition to the artist’s delicate watercolours, many works include vibrant visual textures. Kamikura was born in Steveston, B.C., raised in Japan and then returned to reside in Richmond, B.C. Years after obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce and Business Administration at the University of British Columbia, she studied art at Kwantlen and Langara Colleges in Vancouver. Kamikura’s work is represented worldwide in both originals and prints. As well, she travels extensively as a teacher.
