GERALD ST. MAUR, AFCA, ASA Gerald St. Maur is an artist and a poet. His first book of poetry, published in 1983, earned critical acclaim while his first play won the Alberta Culture Award for one acts in the same year. He has written and directed plays for the stage, radio and television, and his poetry has been widely anthologized. Since 1998 St. Maur has concentrated exclusively on drawings using charcoal, graphite and conte. Highly acclaimed, his work has been exhibited throughout Canada and is held in private, corporate and public collections. He is a past president of the Alberta Society of Artists. Best known as a landscapist, he is especially interested in chiaroscuro and the attendant effects of tonality and texture. Dramatic lighting tends to dominate his studies of trees while his cloud series explore the vaulted sky above.
