MARNEY WARD, AFCA
"My physical subject is flowers, but my spiritual subject is light. For me, the petals of flowers are like the pieces of stained glass in a cathedral window, staining the pure white light with their incredibly clear and beautiful colours." Watercolour is the perfect medium for Marney as it allows her to superimpose clear layers of colour and maintains transparency in all but the darkest mixtures. Marney has been interested in creativity, consciousness and the arts all her life, completing a BA in Honours Fine Arts and English and a PhD on the art and poetry of William Blake from UBC. She is a teacher of Transcendental Meditation and studied Chinese Brush Painting as well as western watercolour techniques. Recently she has developed her own unique style of floral watercolours: large vibrant close-ups which reveal the spiritual essence of the flowers she paints and beyond them, her own spiritual relationship with the world. |
