GEORGE WEBER, SFCA (Deceased)

German born GEORGE WEBER, SFCA trained as a draughtsman and in the late 20's, sensing the dangerous political climate developing in Germany, decided to emigrate to Canada. He first worked as a wallpaper designer in Toronto, then came West, settling in Edmonton. Weber’s special interest was serigraphy (silkscreen fine art prints) which he introduced to Alberta. Many well-known Alberta artists took classes from him in the l950's through the University of Alberta. Weber has enjoyed a thirty-year relationship with Canadiana Galleries after bringing them a collection of Canadian wildflower hasti-notes into their gallery "on spec". One of the highlights of his career was in 1985 when his serigraph of Moraine Lake was chosen by Canada Post to commemorate the centennial of Banff National Park. Besides Weber’s talent as a printmaker, his watercolours of prairie landscapes and the Edmonton skyline are treasured by many collectors.
