Are you passionate about making art part of the everyday for everyone? Here at the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA), we are, and we need help to make this happen.

The FCA is Canada’s national arts service organization for the visual arts. Founded in 1941 by members of the Group of Seven as well as other professional artists of the time, today we support, promote and provide opportunities for both professional and emerging artists across Canada. With the provision of exhibition, education and networking opportunities, we are uniting the nation through the visual arts, and proud of it.  

 

 

Permanent / Full time: Membership & Studio Coordinator

THIS POSITION HAS NOW BEEN FILLED

$18/hr + benefits

 

Do you enjoy detail? Are you passionate about keeping everything organized? We are looking for someone like you to join our small team of professionals who enjoy helping artists build their careers.

As our team is small, your daily duties will vary from day-to-day. Your central focus will be membership services, spearheading our studio program, and assisting the Executive Director. Being the front-line help for our members, you will be answering the phone and returning emails a lot. You'll also have light bookkeeping duties, be helping with advertising and brochure layout, and a number of other duties.

Communication skills are key for this position; both written and verbal. Computer skills are a necessity. You do not need to have a lot of work experience, but you need to be smart and a quick learner. You’ll need to be a self-starter and have customer-focussed way of thinking and acting.

Temporary / part time: youth employment innitiative

$15/hr

As part of the Federal Government's CSJ program, the FCA is offering up to four positions:

2 assisting the Education Coordinator, and

2 assisitng the Gallery Coordinator. 

This position is funded under the Federal Government’s CSJ program. As per the CSJ program, candidates must be between the ages of 19 and 30 years of age, Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Job Title: Education Program Assistant

2 Positions availble

Either part time, July through February, up to 66 hours /month

or full time, July + August, 35 hrs per week.

Hourly Wage: $15 per hour

 

We are increasing our services yet again!

Artists need more help than ever, so the Federation is expanding our operation to include studio services and an education space. To make this happen we need at least two assistants, both part-time, one for just the summer (July & August), and the other for July through February 2021.

Because we’ll be setting up a new facility no two days will be the same. The project will change as we go along and we’ll need you to take on different roles to make the project a success.

The ideal candidate will be: ·       

Outgoing, energetic and have an approachable personality

Confident in MS Office and Gmail

An excellent communicator with great interpersonal skills

Highly organized with good time-management

Attentive to details

Able to prioritize effectively
An effective problem solver and trouble-shooter

Physically active. We’ll be buying and moving studio equipment

 

Tasks and responsibilities:

Assisting the Education Coordinator (EC) in developing and delivering educational programing. Duties include but are not limited to

Help create our studio and education space

Preparing, setting up and taking down classroom space

Creating promotional material for art workshops, classes and fundraising events

Distributing promotional material for educational programming across digital platforms and social media 

Membership and office administration assistance

 

Language Requirement: English, a second language is an asset

Job Title: Gallery Assistant

2 Positions availble

Either part time, July through February, up to 66 hours /month

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Gallery Coordinator and Fine Art Consultant, the Gallery Assistant:

 

·                     Is an ambassador for the organization at all times

·                     Welcomes visitors and informs them of current exhibitions and programs

·                     Answers telephones, redirects calls and assists members

·                     Assists with art sales and client retention

·                     Completes administrative and data entry tasks

·                     Creates engaging social media posts

·                     Is present for exhibition opening receptions – SIR required

·                     Edits content for exhibition catalogues

·                     Writes press releases for exhibitions

·                     Cleans the gallery space

·                     Paints and repairs gallery space and displays

·                     Uninstalls and installs new exhibitions on Sunday evenings

 

Skills and Qualifications:

A successful candidate will:

 

·                     Be Serving It Right certified

·                     Be eager to learn with a desire to gain valuable experience

·                     Have a passion for the visual arts

·                     Write engaging copy

·                     Have an outgoing and friendly personality

·                     Have the ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team

·                     Demonstrate good time management and organizational skills

·                     Use discretion when handling and recording private information

·                     Take the initiative during quieter times to support the staff team

 

A second language and non profit and/or gallery experience are an asset. Experience with Photoshop and the Adobe Creative Suite are also beneficial.
