Description:
This diptych was inspired by some precious 1929 Vancouver newspaper. My imagination began to combine the feel for the heritage and mechanical side of the Britannia Mines Museum with the old pages. Along with history, I photo transferred into this piece is a “Britannia Mines and Smelting Flow Sheet”, also from 1929 that I found while doing research. As most graphic designers we have favourite fonts, for me it is Bondoni and those are the oversized numbers blended into this piece.
Found metal objects are a weakness and my collection becomes useful to make stamps or stencils to give the appearance of gears and mechanical images within my art. Here it is a combination of stamping with plaster and self made stencils to create a repetition in the shapes. These shapes are then painted with ‘metal or copper paint’ and a coating of an acid to rust and or patina to give the painting an aged and mechanical feel.
Location:
This piece will not be included in the physical exhibition on Granville Island but meets the quality standards of the FCA and is classified as, "Recognized Artwork."
