This 'Self Portrait' is made with acrylic and oil paint--and is my very first oil portrait painting. This exercise allowed me to appreciate and enjoy my physical features that I tend to hate before: my greatest insecurity-acne, my flat and flared nose and my wavy hair. However, I have realized that all these features are unique to me. I won't be Karl Hipol without all these. And so, I have learned to render my acne marks lovingly; to follow the contour of my humble nose and the strands of my free flowy hair.
