I am often inspired by the effect of light in a scene. I plein air painted on this rocky beach several times, facing in various directions and various times of day. This particular studio piece based on oil sketches and photos, captured the beautiful afternoon light. My process was chosen specifically to create colour harmony and glow throughout the painting. I started with a warm thin transparent layer, leaving bits showing throughout, then layered opaque contrasting and complimentary colours over top. I was so taken with the shadow and light effect on this rugged beach and loved the process of creating a piece of art to honour the place and time.
