FCA Toronto: A Slice of Life

Spacer

SUBMISSION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO AUGUST 15th!

The “A Slice of Life” theme was selected for the Earls Court Gallery show as it is widely open to interpretation by artists. It can refer to vibrant street scenes, or quieter walks, peaceful camping locations, or busy restaurant scenes, a meal set for guests, or other forms of life that cross paths with ours. The title has a contemporary and perhaps a contemplative feel to it. It will be interesting to see how artists interpret this theme.

The juried exhibition and sale of original artwork by FCA Toronto artists who are Active or Signature Status members will be accompanied by an online show by Earls Court. All paintings must be for sale and sales will be handled by the Gallery at 50% commission. To be eligible to submit an entry, artists must be members in good standing of the National FCA and must also be affiliated with the Toronto Chapter.  All styles and subject matter are acceptable with attention being made to the theme.

Artists must make their own arrangements to deliver and pick up their art on the appropriate dates. The Gallery will not accept shipped artwork. Labels must be on the front (lower right corner) and back of artworks. Earls Court Gallery will jury for the awards.

Copyright and Standards

The following excerpt is taken from the Federation Policy Manual:

7.1.5 "While using photos as a reference for painting is a long-held accepted practice, making substantive use of stock imagery or photos taken by professional photographers is not permissible, even with their permission. Photographs by professional photographers are considered artworks in and of themselves. Reference photos must be taken by the artist themselves or provided to them by an amateur photographer with their express consent. Stock images may only be referred to for anatomical study and must be incidental to the completed artwork to be permissible".

While an artist may have paid a licensing fee or retrieved explicit written permission that places them on the right side of copyright laws, Federation Standards do not permit the use of stock photography or reference material from another artist - even with permission or paid licensing.

Federation Standards are different than copyright laws, submitting artists must adhere to both to avoid being removed from the exhibition - if in doubt about the source material of your artwork - do not submit it.
