I love to use old discarded maps and charts for the background to my paintings. They create perfect settings for my visual stories. I found this lovely chart which included Salt Spring Island in an old book store. It begged to tell a story for my painting. The character in my story is a Kingfisher which I perched on a vintage fishing bobber. I wanted to portray the relaxed "Island Life" mood of Salt Spring Island with this little fellow chillin' at the beach.
