Every artist has their muse. What or who inspires you to make artwork? Do the Old Masters or Impressionist painters drive you to your easel? What about that landscape you couldn’t forget or the person you needed to immortalise in paint? Muse is an exhibition of artworks that explores inspiring subject matter.
An exhibition of 10 x 10 original artworks by Canadian and International artists, all for $150. A portion of each sale assists the Federation as a non profit charitable society in continuing to provide and improve upon the services and programming we've given to emerging artists, established artists and the general public since 1941.
Iconic subject matter can be found in people, places, the natural world, the imagined world, monuments, moments in history and movements in art. Artists could submit portraits of iconic people, animals, landscapes, cityscapes, landmarks or buildings, historical moments and/or explore their own personal interpretations of an icon or subject matter they consider iconic.
The images in this gallery were part of an exhibition and competition called "365". Artists submitted images of any style, subject and medium for the chance to feature in the 2016 FCA art calendar and win cash prizes.
AIRS is the Federation of Canadian Artists’ Annual International Representational Show. This call for submission is an open, international, juried call for representational or semi – representational original paintings, prints and drawings. Artists can submit works depicting any subject matter including but not limited to portraits, figures, still life, floral, landscape, interiors, and wildlife. Work must retain semblance to reality while maintaining the subjective interpretation of the artist.
There is no shortage of inspiration from the environment in Western Canada. Spoilt for natural bounty from mountains, trees, coastlines, fields, rainforests, prairies, boreal forest and even desert, there is an abundance of natural scenery that has driven many an impassioned artist to the easel. However, there is more to Western Canada’s scenery, like the farms and ranches, parks, vineyards, suburbs, uptown, downtown and the city streets. Everyday life, the people that live there and events that take place, all make up scenes from our daily lives. Share yours in Scenes from Western Canada.
Paintings by Numbers is the FCA's annual fundraising gala. The proceeds from Paintings by Numbers go a long way to supporting the FCA's goals and programs. A huge thank you to the contributing artists. Without their generosity the evening would not be possible. Thanks also to the sponsors, volunteers, directors, staff, service providers, host and above all, those who buy tickets for this fabulous event.
Exposed canvas has a bad reputation. Criticized for being raw, lazy and unfinished, Canvas Unbound challenges the notion that framing an artwork gives it more artistic weight, polish, completion. Framing creates a boundary between the viewer, the work and the artist. Frames can change the reading of an artwork. What was intended to be a lighthearted expression of emotion between viewer and artist becomes solemn and inaccessible in a bulky wooden frame. That piece with the sincere political message? Undermined by a ridiculous gilded monstrosity. The meaning intended to be for you to decide? Robbed. Frames are boundaries where artwork ends and the real world begins. Art needn’t end. Canvas Unbound blurs these boundaries and unleashes art into the real world.
This exhibition celebrates the successful applicants for Associate and Senior Status. Jury for these new Signature members takes place once per year. Active members jury to Associate (AFCA) and Associate Member jury for Senior (SFCA) status.
With an emphasis on communication through the visual language of colour, shape, line and form, Abstract art has been offering an alternative take on artistic practice since the 19th century. Abstract art can take influence from cubism, fauvism, dadism, futurism and even suprematism. Forget your misconceptions of this visual style and embrace the abstract.
Too often artists feel restricted by narrow themes or exhibition subject requirements. Often artists have pieces they find won't fit rigid calls for entry. Artists' Choice was implemented by the FCA to give Active and Signature Member artists the opportunity to highlight their creativity in subject, medium and style. A celebration in diversity, Artists' Choice offers freedom to create!
Landscapes are one of the most pivotal subjects depicted by artists. From traditional landscapes, to cityscapes, seascapes and beyond, artists have always found inspiration from the natural and urban playgrounds we inhabit.
