This painting visually represents the expanding lives of remote workers in general, and of my son, Sebastian’s, in particular. Many remote workers’ physical presence in one particular place on earth is now unnecessary. Sebastian, as a software developer, could be located on Mars and still fulfill his contracts with his employers in Paris and London. This portrait attempts to capture Sebastian’s complicated and yet boundless existence by dissolving his features into a map of arteries and roadways that might lead to anywhere on earth, even as the map itself deteriorates and dissolves into a trail of darkness that could be imagined as leading out through the universe.
