Divergent wood, 2021. This piece at its core represents growth and interconnectivity. Not just through the subject (mushrooms), but also by pushing wood carving to new places in sculpture. The name, Divergent wood, is an expression of how each moment creates a new path. Embracing those opportunities has brought me to this artistic path. That is a choice to be made. To explore, and step into the unknown. This is like the forest. Forever growing. The death of one brings life to another. The base of this piece is salvaged from a downed hurricane Juan tree. The mushrooms are carved from Yellow Heart wood and Basswood. The moss and lichens are natural, and treated with stabilizers/clear coat.
