Drawing inspiration from personal experiences living in Canada, the artist was inspired to recreate the rich heritage and natural beauty of the Canadian countryside through the depiction of a hummingbird. As a First Nations totem symbol for peace, the hummingbird represents the importance of core Canadian values – positivity, knowledge, playfulness, independence as well as the appreciation for the miracles of life.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:

Dr. Vivian Ching is a Canadian-Hong Kong artist based in Vancouver B.C. who specializes in abstract paintings with her signature use of vibrant colors and symbolic imagery that emphasize the importance of positive-thinking, a concept known as “Happy Art”.

In the past 6 years, Vivian has held 11 exhibitions and her artwork has regularly appeared in numerous music videos, films and TV shows in Asia and Canada. In 2014, Vivian collaborated with Canon to become the first Canadian-Chinese artist to showcase her artwork in space. The project gained extensive mainstream regional media recognition in Asia, Canada and UK. She was further selected as a central story feature for Cosmopolitan Magazine’s 30th Anniversary Celebratory Edition in Hong Kong. Vivian’s distinctive approach to art has landed her with significant media coverage from 80+ media outlets over the years including Fairchild Radio & TV (Vancouver), Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, OK! Magazine, Esquire, TVB and more.

In addition to her art career, Dr. Vivian Ching is a Professor at Kwantlen Polytechnic University School of Business, the second largest business school in Western Canada. She holds a PhD degree in Quality Management; two Master’s degrees in International Economic Law (Distinction) and Management from University of Bath (UK) and University of Warwick (UK), as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Anthropology minor from the University of Virginia (USA). She has held business advisory roles for leading Global Fortune 500 multinationals in New York City and Hong Kong.

Drawing on her unique blend of experiences, Vivian is a keen advocate of STEAM education, which integrates the Arts with STEM teachings to promote critical-thinking and innovation in the business world. She works with multinational corporations to transform professional learning, ranging from UBS, Nomura, AIA to Conrad Hotels (Hilton Group). She is also President of the Rotary Club of Burnaby Metrotown from 2019-2021.
