Description:
Within this pandemic, I have encountered unexpected silver linings. I have explored areas in British Columbia that are rich in history and natural beauty. During one of my adventures this summer, I found myself spending time on a small island near the mouth of Desolation Sound. This island has been able to retain its natural beauty and has been shielded and protected from the intrusion of rapid change and progress.
I submit a piece that provided me the opportunity to share a light-bathed landscape that captures the essence of time and place. This piece draws out in me the sharp reality that these spaces are now considered rare and hard to find. Whale Bones speaks to my concern that we will have to go further away, look harder, and perhaps one day, be unsuccessful at finding light bathed landscapes that capture the beauty of British Columbia.
If you look carefully, you will find an eye with a tear, a fish trying to catch oxygen, a fist fighting to be crushed and a hand reaching out with hope.
