In 2015, I was on a snorkelling trip to the Great Barrier Reef, leaving from Port Douglas, Australia. I was awed by the colour and variety of the coral. But in 2016, 2017 and 2020, there were mass bleaching events at the reef. Bleaching is caused by rising sea temperatures. 2300 km of reef have been affected.
