Description:
This scene was taken at the base of Onaping Falls, where A.Y. Jackson painted several of his paintings. I’ve imagined myself accompanying Alexander Young as I've travelled along the river, trying to look at nature the way he saw it. This raw and rugged land still untouched the way that it was back in his time. My journey began; in a strange way, it was like having him by my side, asking questions in my head, what scene would he paint? As the sun was setting, a still voice spoke to me as I made my way down to the falls, looking through the bush upon the river capturing the sun’s reflection on the early Autumn leaves at a distance. This exact scene seemed to be the ideal composition he would paint. I took it upon myself to paint this raw yet beautiful Autumn scene.
