Description:
As countless Artists will attest, The Group of Seven has also been a significant influence to my practice. When the Group of Seven is mentioned, most art appreciators may initially visualize the landscapes this group produced. Many continue to take my breath away.
My subject of choice is not landscape, but rather structure. I have found great inspiration through the structural works of both Lawren Harris and LeMoine FitzGerald. However, it is A.J. Casson without question, who has had the greatest of influence. His approach, vision, and our shared love for cubism/geometric art speak to me like no other member. The work of Casson transports me! Every time I view "Hillside Village" I can sense the dust billowing up from under my shoes while walking the dirt road amongst the simple dwellings. I can feel the muck of the road, and tension of the sky in "Thunderstorm"!! Wow...I get goosebumps!
100 years later...the excitement, and visionary daring of these creative souls remain as current today as when they burst on the scene. Thank you Group of Seven, for changing the art world forever.
