This is a painting of my daughter, pausing in the shelter of an old lighthouse, trying to decide where to go next. Her travels took her through Norway and Scotland, following family roots and pondering career ideas.
The task I set for myself in this painting, was to have a sort of push and pull between high realism in the fine lace curtains and wool sweater, and texture and looseness in the peeling paint and dirty walls around of the window.
