Description:
At a time when a crisis of racism is at the forefront of the collective global consciousness, this painting explores the pride and hope found in reclaiming one’s cultural heritage. The image depicts my Cree/Irish daughter learning about her grandparents’ heritage while on a visit to Ireland. This work is inspired by a Gaelic proverb, shared by my Irish husband: “Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine”, meaning, “People live in one another’s shadows” or “people depend upon one another”. The light streaming down onto the ancestral figures signifies a source of life, rekindling, and understanding.

This piece will not be included in the physical exhibition on Granville Island but meets the quality standards of the FCA and is classified as, "Recognized Artwork."
