When studying art at University, we went on a field trip to New York, and I was blown away by Rembrandt’s “The Polish Rider.” Many years later I was asked to join a group of Northern Ontario artist for an exhibition called “Portraits North of 17”. One of the tasks we were given was to create a contemporary homage to a Rembrandt painting. I knew instantly which painting I would work with. I have done my best to pay homage to the original, while at the same time creating an artwork that is my own.
